Group Services

Group Counselling

Two types of therapeutic groups are offered through York Region Psychotherapy & Counselling Services (YRPCS).

Psycho-educational groups are structured and provide members with information about a particular topic. These groups teach specific skills and coping strategies in an effort to prevent problems from reoccurring or arising. Topics include Anger Management, Substance Abuse Awareness, Couple Communication, and Managing Stress.

Process-based groups provide members an opportunity to discuss issues in an open and group-guided format where facilitators provide support and encouragement. YRPCS facilitators have many years of group work experience and are skilled at maintaining the safety of the group and helping each member become responsible for her/his own learning and growth. Topics may include anxiety, depression, divorce/separation, life transitions, and parenting.
