Philippa Hamson MC, CCC, RP

I was born and raised in the greater Toronto Area and consider York Region to be home. I earned my Undergraduate degree from York University and then completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Lethbridge. Shortly after graduating, I became a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and obtained the status of a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) and in 2015 became a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I have over 15 years experience working in the mental health field and I am thrilled to have found my passion working as a counsellor.

My experience includes working with issues of anxiety, depression, relationship ambivalence, low self-esteem/self-confidence, and trauma. In addition, I have experience counselling couples on issues of healthy communication, affair recovery, re-building trust/respect, and increasing emotional and physical intimacy.

As your counsellor, I am committed to helping you achieve meaningful change using a gentle yet direct approach. My skills lie in providing unconditional acceptance, empathic understanding, and asking thought-provoking questions that bring new perspective to your experience and highlight neglected or forgotten dreams, hopes, and values. My counselling philosophy is primarily inspired by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, however, I also draw from other therapeutic modalities to help you create change and reach the goal(s) that motivated you to seek counselling.

During my downtime I enjoy the outdoors and love to hike, camp, swim, sail, travel, and explore new places and different cultures. My travels have included camping in East Africa; zip lining, deep sea fishing, and snorkelling in Central America; and visiting museums in Europe.
