Kerry Newman, RP

I feel privileged to have more than 20 years counselling experience in the addiction and mental health field. After graduating from McMaster University, I worked in a variety of settings including hospitals (CAMH, Wm Osler Health Centre), short and long-term treatment centres, community agencies (ASYR, 310-COPE) and a number of schools within York Region.

I started the Rural Aftercare Program in 1998 (now York Region Psychotherapy & Counselling Services) out of a desire to support and assist the people living and working in my community. I am excited that over the last few years we have expanded the practice and increased the number of services offered.

I use a holistic approach to counselling (mind/body/spirit) and therefore use a number of modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused, Interpersonal, and Family Therapy. Trained in crisis management & Restorative Justice – Trainer, I am able to provide trainings and workshops to agencies and businesses in the areas of Conflict Management, Suicide Intervention/Prevention, Substance Use/Abuse Assessments and Team Building. Individual and Couple issues addressed include Anxiety/Depression, Anger, Addiction, Enhanced Communication Skills, Transitions and Family Conflict/Infidelity. I have found my passion lies in helping men and women identify, own, and work through their often hidden and long-standing issues.

When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family, playing golf, boating, listening to live music, and travelling to parts unknown.
